Welcome to the Labor Day holiday here in the states! I hope that you are not laboring today, but if you are here’s hoping the great pics that people upload can make your day a little lighter!
I would hit Bill’s "swoosh gong" but I think CSMainer would object... ;-)
Hi! This is only a pale subsitute for BiPM's Cheers and Jeers. I'll keep this short as I know that y'all wanna get to commenting rather than reading!
First, a small lesson about
Labor Day from Wikipedia:
"Labor Day is a United States federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday in September. The holiday began in 1882, originating from a desire by the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the "working man". It is still celebrated mainly as a day of rest and marks the symbolic end of summer for many. Labor Day became a national holiday by Act of Congress in 1894"
And let's face it, where would we be without the Unions? Would we still have a two day weekend or any kind of a weekend? Would our children still be working the mines? How long do you think our work week would be if the workers did not organize?
Second, I'll like pass on some "Left Wing Talking Points" (some may be out of date but here goes):
"Judges will stop legislating from the bench when Legislators stop passing judgement on people."
"If you can give me one secular reason why these two same-sexed people should not be married, say so now or forever hold your peace." (I mean ones that won't make us laugh.)
"If all these people who have been so horribly against gays turn out to be gay themselves, then what does that say about those who are pro-life?"
"Does Bush really think that he can fund his war off the backs and health of our children?"
Third, some quotes from my favorite and best ever sci-fi show, Babylon 5:
"Our new friend just said all the security in the world can't stop a lone gunman dedicated to exchange his life for the target, and he is right. So you may as well live instead of being a prisoner. "
"If more of our so-called leaders would walk the same streets as the people who voted them in, live in the same buildings, eat the same food instead of hiding behind glass and steel and bodyguards, maybe we'd get better leadership and a little more concern for the future. "
~ Captain Sheridan
"Only an idiot would fight a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Idiots would fight a war on twelve fronts." ~Ambassodor Mollari
"G'Quon wrote, "There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain." ~ G'Kar
and of course all of the other best
quotes from B5

Has a mythical beast turned up in Texas?
Not only has Texas the $350 million MegaMillions winner, but we also may have found a mythical beast! (No not King Georgie's Brains, but it could explain where it went!)
The Great Wall of APEC!
I like this quote at the end of the article:
"I'm looking forward to the beautiful city and to the extent I inconvenience (Sydneysiders), I apologize," Bush told Australian television in an interview broadcast on Friday."
So King Georgie is looking foward to the extent that he will inconveniences the people of Sydney? Typical!
If you want to make this into a bumbersticker, okey-dokey, just send me one!
